LGBTQ Youth Group is for teens who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, or questioning. Though this is a non-therapy group, it is a support group run by the peers that attend the meetings, and co-facilitated by volunteer adult members approved by Anchoring Within. The goal of the group is to create a place for LGBTQ youth to feel safe and free to be themselves without concern about being treated differently because of their sexual orientation and/or gender identity/expression. The youth that attend the group meetings will find support from peers who are having similar experiences. The group discussions will allow LGBTQ youth to build community, increase self-awareness and a positive self-regard, and develop stronger coping skills. Monthly activities vary between guest speakers, games, LGBTQ culture, community outreach and more.
